The Committee also believes, however, that a sixth objective must be added to the five set by the White Paper, namely the humanist dimension of the learning society. In the Committee's view, education programmes must be established to cultivate democratic and social awareness among schoolchildren, inculcating them with the values of tolerance and solidarity with their fellow-beings and acceptance of the diversity of humankind in terms of age, colour, race, sex, religion or ideology.
Het is echter wel van oordeel dat er naast de vijf doelstellingen in het Witboek nog een doelstelling m.b.t. de humane dimensie in die samenleving moet worden geformuleerd: volgens het Comité is het van belang onderwijsprogramma's te ontwikkelen waarin zaken centraal staan als democratische en sociale bewustwording van scholieren, verdraagzaamheid en solidariteit jegens de medemens, het herkennen en aanvaarden van verschillen tussen mensen, of dat nu leeftijd, huidskleur, ras, geslacht, geloof of overuiging betreft.
