As well as specific consumer protection rules, consumers are also affected by other important EU policies such as the internal market, environment and sustainable development, transport, financial services, competition, agriculture, external trade and more. Consumer policy as such cannot be developed in isolation without taking into account other areas that have an impact on consumers.
Voor de consument zijn niet alleen de specifieke wet- en regelgeving inzake consumentenbescherming van belang, maar ook andere beleidsterreinen zoals bijvoorbeeld de interne markt, milieu en duurzame ontwikkeling, vervoer, financiële diensten, concurrentie, landbouw, buitenlandse handel, enz. Het consumentenbeleid kan daarom niet worden ontwikkeld zonder rekening te houden met andere gebieden die van invloed zijn op de consument.
