ists within a rigid caste system, and persists despite the country’s official abolition of slavery in 1981, and its explicit criminalisation in 2007; expresses deep concern at the institutionalised nature of this practice, which reaches as far as the civil service; notes, furthermore, the Mauritanian Government’s extreme reluctance

...[+++]r heeft geresulteerd in succesvolle vervolging; dringt er bij de Mauritaanse regering op aan om haar nationale en internationale juridische verbintenissen en verplichtingen na te komen om alle vormen van slavernij effectief te beëindigen en om antislavernijwetgeving aan te nemen die, onder meer, voorziet in compensatieregelingen; roept de Mauritaanse autoriteiten bovendien op om maatschappelijke activisten die ijveren voor beëindiging van slavernij, niet langer lastig te vallen en zelfs gevangen te zetten, onder meer op grond van afvalligheid; dringt er in dit verband bij de Commissie en de lidstaten op aan het werk van zowel Mauritaanse als internationale antislavernijorganisaties, met inbegrip van de speciale VN-rapporteur voor hedendaagse vormen van slavernij en de Internationale Arbeidsorganisatie, te blijven ondersteunen;
