(17e) In line with the Union's goal of strengthening international cooperation in the fight against counterfeiting, piracy and illicit parallel trade in goods infringing the intellectual property of registered right-holders, the new European Observatory on Counterfeiting and Piracy has a key role to play by providing all customs authorities of Member States with relevant and timely information to conduct appropriate controls of authorised importers and distributors of goods suspected of infringing an intellectual property right in the internal market as well as exporters thereof to foreign markets.
