Not only is it necessary to lance the boil of Eurostat; it will also be necessary, in future, to make OLAF more independent and more capable of functioning, to improve the transmission of internal information, to treat as a matter of urgency the reform of the Commission’s accounting system, and to put an end to both the culture of secrecy and the negligent attitude to financial control.
Het kwaad rond Eurostat dient met wortel en tak te worden uitgeroeid. Daar komt voor de toekomst nog bij dat de operationele onafhankelijkheid en capaciteit van het OLAF moeten worden versterkt, dat de interne informatieoverdracht moet worden verbeterd, dat het boekhoudsysteem van de Commissie dringend moet worden hervormd en dat er een einde moet worden gemaakt aan de cultuur van geheimhouding en onverschilligheid ten aanzien van de regels op het gebied van de financiële controle.
