From an economic point of view, this is a positive phenomenon, but where migration from the countryside and agriculture takes place on a large scale and is durable due to the substitution of labour by capital, this can aggravate demographic decline and hence lead to the disappearance of villages and settlements in rural areas.
Uit economisch standpunt is dit een positief verschijnsel. Wanneer de schaal van de migratie van het platteland en de landbouw als gevolg van de vervanging van arbeid door kapitaal echter groot en blijvend is, kan dit leiden tot ontvolking en bijgevolg ook tot het verdwijnen van dorpen en gehuchten in plattelandsgebieden.
