Financing on the Italian side would easily be possible by reallocating the revenue from the road tolls, from the Brenner motorway, to fund the rail route. For this to happen, however, it would be necessary for the concession for the Brenner motorway not to be put out to tender – as is the current intention as a result of pressure from Europe – but for the Italian State to be given the opportunity to extend this concession for at least another 50 years instead of it being awarded to private tenderers.
In Italië kan dat echter eenvoudig worden opgelost door de inkomsten uit de tolheffing van de weg, van de Brenner-snelweg, te gebruiken om het spoorwegtracé te financieren, door de exploitatievergunning voor de Brenner-snelweg niet aan een particuliere bieder te gunnen, zoals Europa dat op dit moment eist, maar de Italiaanse staat de mogelijkheid te geven om die vergunning nog minstens vijftig jaar in eigen hand te houden.
