The Directive has been reviewed by the Commission and as part of the process, working groups on satellite broadcasting have been launched.

The MIP proposal for 2001-2006, adopted by the Commission in September 2001, foresees a total of about EUR2.8 billion for 11 priority projects (Essen projects), the project of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (Galileo) and four groups of projects of "common interest".

Today Europe can count on groups such as EADS, Airbus, BAE Systems and Arianespace, bringing together partners from all over the European Union (EU) to consolidate their position as world leader with projects such as Airbus A380, the Ariane 5 space launcher, GMES (global monitoring for environment and security) and the Galileo satellite navigation network.
