‘Social assistance’ refers to assistance granted by the public authorities, whether at national, regional or local level, which can be claimed by an individual, in this case the sponsor, who does not have stable and regular resources sufficient to maintain him/herself and the members of his/her family and who, by reason of that fact, is likely to become a burden on the social assistance system of the host MS during his/her period of residence[41].
“Sociale bijstand” verwijst naar bijstand van overheidswege op nationaal, regionaal of lokaal niveau, waarop een beroep kan worden gedaan door een persoon, in dit geval de gezinshereniger, die niet beschikt over voldoende stabiele en regelmatige inkomsten om in zijn eigen onderhoud en dat van zijn gezin te voorzien en die daardoor de kans loopt tijdens zijn verblijf ten laste van de sociale bijstand van de gastlidstaat te komen[41].
