Stresses the importance of European involvement in ensuring security in space via the European Space Situational Awareness System as well as in space exploration via the International Space Station, since both – protecting the critical European space infrastructure from the risk of collision with spacecraft or space debris and technology spill-over resulting from space exploration – could benefit transport sectors on Earth, especially aviation;
17. onderstreept de betekenis van Europese participatie in het waarborgen van de veiligheid in de ruimte via het Europees systeem voor inzicht in de situatie in de ruimte, alsmede in de verkenning van de ruimte via het internationale ruimtestation ISS, aangezien in beide gevallen, zowel bij het beschermen van belangrijke Europese ruimte-infrastructuur tegen botsingen met ruimtevaartuigen of ruimteafval, als bij de technologie die voortkomt uit het verkennen van de ruimte, voordelen kunnen ontstaan voor de vervoerssector op aarde, en met name voor de luchtvaart.
