The Access to Large-Scale Facilities activity of the TMR programme was developed on the basis that sharing Europe s resources in terms of large- scale facilities makes sense not only economically, but also scientifically-by providing scientists with easier access to large installations outside their own countries, it promotes the mobility of researchers, it adds value to the European research effort through the exchange of researchers, ideas and expertise, and it encourages the creation of a Europe-wide scientific research community.
De in het kader van het OMO-programma ontplooide activiteit "toegang tot grote onderzoeksinstallaties" is gesteund op de grondgedachte dat het openstellen van de Europese grote onderzoeksinstallaties niet alleen uit economisch, maar ook uit wetenschappelijk oogpunt zinvol is. Door wetenschappers gemakkelijker toegang te verlenen tot installaties buiten hun eigen land wordt de mobiliteit van onderzoekers gestimuleerd, gaat het Europese onderzoek er dank zij de intensere uitwisseling van onderzoekers, ideeën en deskundigheid op vooruit en wordt de totstandbrenging van een transeuropese onderzoeksgemeenschap worden bevorderd.
