I strongly agree; the people of Europe, including those from the new Member States, expect the EU to coordinate its foreign and security policy, even on issues such as deploying a US anti-missile defence system on EU territory. This system is not, however, a bilateral exercise between the USA and Poland or the Czech Republic, as some MEPs would have us believe.

Inderdaad, de Europese burgers, ook de burgers in de nieuwe lidstaten, verwachten dat de EU haar buitenlands- en veiligheidsbeleid coördineert, ook in kwesties als het genoemde Amerikaanse antiraketsysteem op het grondgebied van de EU. Dit systeem is helemaal geen bilaterale aangelegenheid tussen de Verenigde Staten aan de ene en Polen en de Tsjechische Republiek aan de andere kant, in tegenstelling tot wat sommige afgevaardigden hier denken.
