(16) ‘population control’ means lethal or non-lethal physical, chemical or biological actions applied to a population of invasive alien species, while also avoiding impact on non-targeted species and their habitats, with the aim of keeping the number of individuals as low as possible, so that, while not being able to eradicate the species, its invasive capacity and adverse impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem services, or on human health and the economy, are minimised.
16) "populatiebeheersing": letale of niet-letale fysieke, chemische of biologische maatregelen om het aantal exemplaren van de populatie van een invasieve uitheemse soort zo laag mogelijk te houden, waarbij tegelijkertijd de effecten op soorten en hun habitats waarop de maatregelen niet van toepassing zijn worden voorkomen, zodat – hoewel de soort niet kan worden uitgeroeid – de invasieve capaciteiten en de negatieve gevolgen voor de biodiversiteit en de ecosysteemdiensten of voor de menselijke gezondheid en de economie tot een minimum worden beperkt.
