First of all, I think we all agree that now is the time to step up the reform efforts in the country for the sake of the Turkish citizens, yes, but also for making serious progress in the EU accession negotiations. Especially, there is very strong emphasis on reforms without unnecessary delay as regards the freedom of expression, the infamous Article 301 and other equivalent articles, as well as religious freedoms.
In de eerste plaats denk ik dat we het er allemaal over eens zijn dat dit het moment is om de hervormingsinspanningen in het land verder op te voeren, in het belang van de Turkse burgers, uiteraard, maar ook om serieuze voortgang te kunnen boeken in de onderhandelingen over de toetreding tot de EU. Met name ligt de nadruk heel sterk op hervormingen die niet langer hoeven te worden uitgesteld, zoals ten aanzien van de vrijheid van meningsuiting, het veelbesproken Artikel 301 en andere equivalente artikelen, en de religieuze vrijheden.
