whereas Peace Support Operations (PSOs) are a form of crisis response, normally in support of an internationally recognised organisation such as the UN or the African Union (AU), with a UN mandate, and designed to prevent armed conflict, restore, maintain or build peace, enforce peace agreements and tackle the complex emergencies and challenges posed by failing or weak states; whereas the stability of the African and European neighbourhood would greatly benefit all our countries.
overwegende dat vredesondersteunende operaties (PSO's) een vorm van crisisrespons zijn, doorgaans ter ondersteuning van internationaal erkende organisaties zoals de VN of de Afrikaanse Unie (AU), met een VN-mandaat, en tot doel hebben gewapende conflicten te voorkomen, de vrede op te bouwen, te herstellen of te handhaven, vredesakkoorden te doen respecteren en de complexe noodsituaties en uitdagingen die gesteld worden door falende of zwakke staten aan te pakken; overwegende dat de stabiliteit in het Afrikaanse en Europese nabuurschap alle betrokken staten zeer ten goede zou komen.
