Although they are deeply attached to their land, their culture, the history of their civilisation and its impressive contributions – all due respect to Mr Berlusconi – many of them are looking to Europe and they see their emigrant brothers and sisters suffering the affronts of which we are all aware: from profiling to discrimination, from detention centres to ‘refoulement’.
Terwijl zij erg gehecht zijn aan hun land en hun cultuur, aan de geschiedenis van hun beschaving met haar zo indrukwekkende bijdragen – met alle respect voor de heer Berlusconi –, richten velen van hen toch de blik op Europa en zien ze dat hun geëmigreerde familieleden de volgende, alom bekende vernederingen moeten slikken: van stigmatisering op grond van etnische kenmerken tot discriminatie, van detentiecentra tot uitwijzing.
