Nowadays, however, discussion of city planning issues has moved beyond purely morphological and functionalist questions and, consequently, beyond key players: the public administration, residents and the real estate investors. As a matter of fact, the position of these players has been challenged by the emergence of the user, the consumer of cultural products, the citizen, the stakeholder, the supplier, the urban manager and the tourist.
Tegenwoordig wordt bij de discussies over stadsplanning verder gekeken dan naar louter formele en functionele aspecten en draait het niet langer alleen om de overheidinstanties, de inwoners en de onroerend-goedinvesteerders. Deze stedelijke actoren hebben plaats moeten maken voor nieuwe types: de gebruiker, de consument van culturele producten, de burger, de stakeholder, de leverancier, de stedelijke manager en de toerist.
