Emphasises the need for the Commission and the Member States to promote responsible and sustainable consumption, in line with the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy, and to make markets fully accessible to consumers from the perspective of a highly competitive social market economy, in a Union based on solidarity; considers it necessary to tackle food waste, make the lifespan of consumer products more durable, promote recycling and consumption of second-hand goods, and further improve the energy efficiency of products available in the single market;
18. onderstreept dat de Commissie en de lidstaten verantwoordelijke en duurzame consumptie moeten bevorderen, overeenkomstig de doelstellingen van de Europa 2020-strategie, en markten volledig toegankelijk moeten maken voor consumenten vanuit het oogpunt van een zeer concurrerende sociale markteconomie, in een op solidariteit gebaseerde Unie; acht het nodig dat voedselverspilling wordt aangepakt, de levensduur van consumentenproducten wordt verlengd, hergebruik en het gebruik van tweedehandsgoederen worden aangemoedigd, en de energie-efficiëntie van producten op de interne markt wordt vergroot;
