The aim of the Directive is to prevent or restrict as far as possible negative effects on the environment, in particular the pollution caused by emissions into air, soil, surface water and groundwater, and the resulting risks to human health, from the incineration and co-incineration of waste.
De richtlijn heeft ten doel de negatieve milieueffecten van de verbranding en meeverbranding van afval, in het bijzonder de verontreiniging door emissies in lucht, bodem, oppervlaktewater en grondwater, alsmede de daaruit voortvloeiende risico's voor de menselijke gezondheid, te voorkomen of, wanneer dat niet uitvoerbaar is, zoveel mogelijk te verminderen door voor verbrandings- en meeverbrandingsinstallaties strenge exploitatievoorwaarden, technische voorschriften en emissiegrenswaarden vast te stellen.
