Points out that, despite the opportunities offered by a well-designed EU capital market, there can be no avoiding the fact that there are formidable obstacles in other areas such as taxation, especially practices that incentivise debt over equity, insolvency and accounting law; believes that in these areas EU harmonisation would not automatically bring added benefits, and that in this context there is no need for an extension of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in Europe;
6. wijst erop dat een goeddoordachte EU-kapitaalmarkt ontegenzeggelijk van nut is, maar dat we tegelijkertijd niet mogen vergeten dat er nog grote problemen bestaan op andere gebieden, zoals belastingen, met name belastingvoordelen voor financiering met schuld ten opzichte van financiering middels de uitgifte van aandelen, insolventie en de accountancywetgeving; is van oordeel dat harmonisatie op EU-niveau hier niet automatisch tot een meerwaarde zou leiden en dat het in dit verband niet nodig is de internationale standaarden voor financiële verslaglegging in Europa uit te breiden;
