Piraeus Bank has made a bid totalling €701 m for the government's 77.31% stake in the Agricultural Bank of Greece (ABG) and its 33.04% stake in the Hellenic PostBank (TT), this being the response of its major shareholders caused by the PASOK Government and EU and IMF representatives for consolidation of the banking sector, taking advantage of the protective umbrella afforded by the State under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government, the EU, the ECB and the IMF.
