In the UK, the implementing Regulations include a definition of sensitive areas which has nine headings (including Natura 2000 sites, other Sites of Special Scientific Interest, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty etc.). The purpose is to require all proposed development in or partly in a sensitive area to be screened, even if it is below the exclusion threshold.
