1. The aim of the Euratom Supply Agency (hereinafter referred to as the Agency) shall be to perform the tasks entrusted to it by Title II, Chapter 6 of the Treaty, in accordance with the objectives of the Treaty.

The decision repeals and replaces the statutes of the Euratom Supply Agency of 6 November 1958, in order to take into account the increase in the number of member states as well as the need to apply modern financial provisions to the agency and the need to establish its seat. The seat of the agency will be in Luxembourg.

The approval was possible after the Commission received guarantees that Areva and Urenco would act independently, in particular when deciding on future capacity, and that Euratom Supply Agency would increase its monitoring means.

Since 1992 the Euratom Supply Agency has been pursuing a policy of diversification of sources of supply in order to avoid over-dependence on the Russian Federation.
