May I remind you that, while criterion 8 of the common position states that, when one Member State of the European Union wants to export arms to another, it must take account of the economic standing of the country to which it is exporting, in the case of Greece, France and Germany are putting pressure on it to buy their arms in order to secure their political support and are doing so at a time when Greece is in very dire financial straits and is subject to numerous controls, at a time when pensions, salaries and so on are being cut in the country.
Ik wil u eraan herinneren, beste collega's, dat in criterium nummer 8 van het gemeenschappelijk standpunt wordt vermeld dat, wanneer een lidstaat van de Europese Unie wapens wil uitvoeren naar een ander, rekening moet worden gehouden met de economische draagkracht van het land waarnaar de wapens worden geëxporteerd.
