The Council, on the basis of results of contacts between the Commission and the South African authorities on 10/13 February, had a very constructive debate - in the context of the EU/SA Trade, Development and Cooperation Agreement - aimed at reaching a definitive solution on the question of protection of specific EU denominations in the field of wine and spirits and on the continued provisional application of the agreement in accordance with the Exchange of Letters in October 1999.
