Notes that banana production in the EU's outermost regions (ORs) meets higher social and environmental standards than is the case in most Latin American countries; draws attention to the fact that in the ORs the use of active agents, such as pesticides, is 20 to 40 times lower than in South and Central American countries, whilst in the phytosanitary field most of the active agents banned under European food safety rules are widely used throughout South and Central American plantations;
21. merkt op dat de bananenteelt in de ultraperifere gebieden van de EU aan strengere sociale normen en milieunormen voldoet dan in de meeste Latijns-Amerikaanse landen; brengt onder de aandacht dat actieve stoffen zoals pesticiden in de ultraperifere gebieden in 20 tot 40 maal kleinere doses worden gebruikt dan in Zuid- en Midden-Amerika, en dat op fytosanitair gebied de meeste stoffen die bij Europese richtlijnen verboden zijn met het oog op de voedselveiligheid, op Zuid- en Midden-Amerikaanse plantages op ruime schaal worden gebruikt;
